Heart of Iowa usually accepts women for stays of 60 to 90 days, while exact lengths depend on each patient's requirements. With the inclusion of mental health services, life skills training, and group and individual therapy, the program provides a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation. Additionally, women get instruction in topics including parenting techniques, finance, nutrition, and independent living skills. Heart of Iowa's residential setting offers family-friendly apartments with two and three bedrooms that provide moms and kids with a stable and comfortable home environment. Admission requires both an insurance pre-authorization and an evaluation by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). In order to be eligible for the program, women must also be dedicated to taking part in the planning of their therapy and making progress toward life objectives that support long-term recovery.

Since 1962, ASAC, a private nonprofit organization, has offered comprehensive services for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of drug use disorders and problem gambling disorders. Serving Linn, Benton, Jones, Jackson, Clinton, Dubuque, and Delaware counties, but accepting members from all around Iowa, ASAC is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. Their offerings span the whole spectrum of care, beginning with prevention and progressing through different stages of therapy and assistance with recovery.
